I used to design a lot of cropped cardis and jumpers in 1980s, but as I no longer feel comfortable wearing the style (changing body shape I’m afraid!) I’ve generally stopped designing them.
However, I still think they can look really good -I would wear one over a high-waisted dress – and I understand the 80s are back in fashion! So I designed this cardigan which appears in the latest issue (195) of Simply Knitting magazine.
Trying to come up with a new twist on a classic stripe, I love the way this stitch pattern – Travelling Vine – distorted the stripes. The stitch is easy to work, and I’ve placed it down the centre of the back and sleeves.
The use of the brighter colour for knit rows worked on the wrong side, leads to an interesting optical illusion when viewed at an angle, as it makes the garment appear orange!
