One of my most popular designs has been Cartwright jumper pattern. First published in The Knitter magazine in 2018, the design has a mix of classic fair-isle and tweed patterns.
The inspiration behind the original was a desire to use classic British textiles in a classic sweater design. The twist on the fair-isle is that instead of using a beautiful mix of colours, as in a traditional fair-isle, I used subtle, monochrome yarns, which mixed well with a 3-colour tweed stitch.
In 2022 I wanted to update the pattern and add some extra sizes, so I took the opportunity to add some variations. The sample was knitted using Blacker Swan yarn 4ply, which is a much softer yarn than the original, with gorgeous muted neutral colours.
I changed the neckline to a v-neck, and added an optional shaped collar. I also took the opportunity when knitting the sample, to have the option of a slipover. So I added an armhole rib, photographed it, then removed the rib to sew in the sleeves for more photos!
