Cotton Camisole

I created this cotton camisole for my book A Handknit Romance. I wanted to recreate some of the beautiful items of clothing from the early 20th century using fine knitting. The camisole was inspired by the fine lawn cotton pintucked and lace underwear worn by Victorian women. The front has panels of lace knit and the back has decorative shaping into the waist. A pretty yoke with a silk ribbon completes the garment.
This makes a lovely summer top that would look good worn with a full skirt or jeans!

Yarn:

The original sample was knitted using a light fingering cotton Olympus ‘Emmy Grande Herbs’ (100% cotton, 88m/96yd – 20g)

Sizes & yarn quantities:

The pattern gives instructions for sizes 32 – 42ins/81.5 – 106.5cm bust

The top uses approx.180-220g or 790-966m/864-1056yds of light fingering cotton

Tension: 36sts and 48 rows to 10cm/4ins in stocking stitch

Needles etc: 2.75mm (US 2) & 3.75 (US 5) needles; stitch holders; 8 x 11mm/7/16 in buttons; 7mm/1/4 in wide silk ribbon
