Bermondsey gloves

This little collection of accessories – beret, beanie,hand/arm-warmers and gloves – is named after the area of London in which I live.

The aspect I love most about living in Bermondsey is it’s proximity to the River Thames, where I go for almost daily walks.

The river changes all the time, and low tides often reveal remains of the river’s past history.

This idea could be said to apply to the designs I did for Quince & Co, released earlier this year. On some of those designs I used the idea of ‘hidden’ pattern or colour that is only revealed with the movement of the garment when worn.

The beret, beanie and mitts in this collection all have a 2-colour simple fair-isle pattern, with a dash of bright colour added by the addition of tipping (colour at the edges) or facings.

These gloves are knitted in the same yarn, and have an openwork lace pattern on the back. They are designed to be worn with any of the other items.

For these designs I used Cascade 220 fingering wool, a yarn that comes in a huge variety of gorgeous colours.

I hope this will inspire knitters to pick their own colour combinations. Meanwhile, I’ve given exact amounts of each colour used in the written instructions, so knitters may be able to use leftover bits of yarn!
