The latest design of mine to appear in The Knitter Issue 158 is Branwen.
The name Branwen is a girl’s name of Celtic origin meaning “blessed raven”. This is a Celtic mythological name, popular in Wales and related to the better-known Bronwyn.
I love the idea of a cardi that is an elegant cover-up, and can be worn over trousers, skirts or a dress, so I decided to design a flared shape, knitted from the top down. The yoke features lace and bobble panels, with the increase shaping between the panels.
The commissioning editor at the magazine chose a gorgeous soft and drapey alpaca and silk mix 4ply yarn, Baby, from UKAlpaca. The yarn really enhances the drape, and gives the cardi a gorgeous, swingy shape.
